OnGuard: Epicor out,
mistakes down.

OnGuard manufactures aluminum fence systems in Moorestown, NJ. Their outdated Epicor ERP made manufacturing inefficient, inventory loose, and reports unreadable. We gathered demands department by department — sales, manufacturing, inventory, accounting, employee management — then implemented Odoo with the customizations the shop floor actually needed: material substitution, custom print formats, production workflows adapted to how OnGuard really builds.

The Challenge

An outdated Epicor ERP: inefficient manufacturing, loose inventory and cost control, reports too hard to read.

In the President’s words: the goals were “managing the manufacturing process more efficiently, inventory control, and cost control.” The outdated ERP forced manual work that drove the mistake rate, and its reports took so long to decode that understanding overall plant status was itself a job.

  • 1Outdated Epicor ERPThe system of record had fallen behind the operation it was meant to run.
  • 2Manual work → mistakesEmployees compensating by hand — every workaround a chance to get it wrong.
  • 3Loose inventory + cost controlMaterial and cost visibility lagged the shop floor.
  • 4Unreadable reportsPlant status took "a decent amount of time" just to understand.
What We Did

Five departments, one system — adapted to the shop floor, not the other way around.

Department-by-department discovery first — sales, manufacturing, inventory, accounting, employee management — then each demand specified and adopted “with the most feasible method.” The customizations are what made it stick: Odoo’s production workflow adapted to OnGuard’s, not the other way around.

  • Odoo ERP framework with demands gathered and implemented across all 5 departments
  • Shop-floor customizations — material substitution, customized printing formats, production workflow adapted to OnGuard's process
  • Full migration off the outdated Epicor system · readable reporting leadership uses to track plant status · Phase 1 closed successfully

Under the hood. Built on: Odoo Mfg, Epicor migration, Material substitution, Custom workflows. Epicor fully retired. Odoo production workflows reshaped to OnGuard's actual manufacturing process — material substitution logic, custom document formats, and department-specific configurations rather than out-of-the-box defaults.

The Outcome

Time back in every department — and plant status readable at a glance.

Time saved in every department · mistake rate down · 5.0 verified · "reports easier to understand than Epicor."

“Incipient Corp.’s prompt response time was really amazing — and issues are taken care of with great quality. All the reports from Odoo are easier to understand than Epicor, which saves me a decent amount of time understanding overall plant status.”
